This restyling tries to reorient the spotlight on this old-fashioned 4x4, meaning that it is not qualified as "crossover" by Nissan. Faced with the most seer Juke or Qashqai, it becomes difficult to be noticed. The lines are certainly classic but the actual crossing capacities. For this 2011 edition and this mid-career rework, the X-Trail adopts a new front and some improvements in detail, sees its consumption down and its range simplified since it is more available with the engine 2, 0l Dci 150 hp and in 3 levels of finish XE, SE, LE. The most visible modifications concern the front, with a grille, a shield and optics completely remodeled, which integrate perfectly with the design of the vehicle. This new front gives the vehicle a more dynamic look. The grid fits more naturally into the shield which suggests a wider track and a stronger foundation. It highlights the Nissan logo in its center, flanked by two inclined pillars, the signature of Nissan SUVs.
The optics are smoother and more worked. Depending on the finish, the dipped beam is either xenon or halogen, while the main beam is equipped with a halogen parabola. The turn signals are always located above the lights, in the optical compartment. On the SE and LE trim levels, the bottom of the light assembly is black, while it is silver on the XE level. Finally, the fog lights are embedded in the shield, under the main lights. At the rear, the vertical lights that characterize the new Nissan X-TRAIL Cars are now redesigned and LED for headlights and brake lights, for the benefit of consumption, visibility and therefore safety. The turn signals have been incorporated in the lower part of the light block, with the headlights and brake lights positioned on the outside surround.
In profile, the appearance of the new X-TRAIL is solid and assertive. This is due to the new design of 17-inch five-double-spoke wheels and the integration of 18-inch ten-spoke alloy wheels; which results in tire enlargement (225/55/18). The adoption of these wider tires necessitated a slight enlargement of the wheel arches, again benefiting from a more seated line of the new X-TRAIL. As a result of these modifications, the external dimensions of the new X-TRAIL have changed slightly: more than 10 mm in length thanks to the new front panel and more than 10 mm in width and height due to the increase of rims and tires. The interior has also been retouched to give the new Nissan X-TRAIL Cars a harmonious and pleasant atmosphere. The interior materials and the homogeneity of the colors were reviewed, particularly at the base of the A-pillar. The elements surrounding the steering wheel controls, the gear selector and the door armrests all look and feel more comfortable, while a thick fabric adds to the seating. As for the leather upholstery, it displays seams both elegant and refined.
The driver will also appreciate a better readability of the combined instrumentation whose main dials - the tachometer and the rev counter - have been enlarged. Between these two instruments was housed a new onboard computer with the white-on-black display for maximum clarity. This screen presents a whole series of useful information such as consumption, outside temperature, range, average speed and a pause reminder recommended during long journeys. The onboard computer display is also used to display other information such as the minimum fuel level, the parking brake engaged, the absence of the smart key, the open doors, and maintenance information. Such as insufficient oil level or the need for maintenance. The comfort of the rear passengers has also been revised thanks to the front backrests offering an additional 10 mm to the knees without compromising the comfort of the front passengers. And, to better withstand the wear and tear of the sometimes hectic life of the new X-TRAIL, the luggage cover material has been reinforced.
